On August 18th, 1912 in Sofia “The Bulgarian-Czech Shareholding Company For Sugar Industry” was established.
The company’s founder was Eng. Rudolf Pitzka and the principal shareholder was The Prague Credit Bank.
That same year, a 550 decare plot was purchased near Gorna Oriahovitsa.
A rapid construction began. The development and manufacture of the equipment was assigned to the best Czech companies.
The outbreak of the Balkan War created significant difficulties.
The construction workers were mobilised.
Dozens of railway wagons carrying equipment delivered from the Czech lands were left stranded at railway stations in Bulgaria and Serbia.
On 14 June 1913, the strongest earthquake in the history of Gorna Oryahovitsa struck. Some of the factory buildings were destroyed and the equipment was buried under the rubble.
The company management mobilised its efforts. Through round-the-clock work, the factory was rebuilt.
On 8 December 1913, the Sugar Factory in Gorna Oryahovitsa began its first production campaign.
It was the most modern sugar production facility in Bulgaria.
Its equipment and technology were of world-class standard.
To make use of molasses, a by-product of sugar beet processing, a factory for the production of ethyl alcohol was built in 1923.
In 1926, a carbon dioxide production unit was added to the factory.
In 1927, a nearby confectionery factory was acquired.
New factories were built for the production of ceramic products, heating appliances, glucose, potassium carbonate and dry animal feed.
In 1948, the company was nationalised. The enterprise was renamed “State Sugar Factories”.
The Czech side was compensated with holidays on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast at the Sts. Constantine and Helena resort, which was developed for this purpose.

Construction beginsto na novi zavodi.
On 1 January 1960, construction began on the company's own combined heat and power plant. The project was carried out with the full resources of the socialist state.
Working in three shifts were 2,000 construction workers, 7 excavators, 3 cranes and 35 dump trucks. On 20 October 1960, the CHP plant was completed and began operation.
In 1969, a repair and mechanical engineering plant was built within the company.
The facility was established to serve the needs of all sugar factories and confectionery plants in Bulgaria, which at the time were part of the “Bulgarian Sugar” economic association.
In 1970, one of the largest printing facilities in Bulgaria was built.
The facility was officially opened by Todor Zhivkov.

In 2002, the company was fully privatised with entirely Bulgarian capital.
The company is publicly listed and has more than 1,600 shareholders.
Its shares are traded on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange in Sofia.
More than BGN 94 million was invested in the company.
The main production facilities were modernised and international quality standards were introduced.
In 2025, the company's business was restructured.
All activities in the Sugar, Ethanol, Energy – CHP and Repair and Mechanical Services divisions came under the control of one of the company's principal shareholders. Confectionery production was separated into a new company. As a result, two independent companies were formed, each with its own management and strategic direction.
